GTCHS Aviation Program

GTCHS Aviation Program

Where Dreams Take Flight

Designed for students with big dreams and a passion for flight, the Aviation Program at GTCHS gives students access to one of the most dynamic career fields in the world, grounded in a curriculum that challenges, inspires, and prepares them for postsecondary opportunities in flight, engineering, and aerospace innovation.

Through a hands-on, STEM-rich curriculum developed by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and delivered through our Career and Technical Education (CTE) department, GTCHS offers one of the most comprehensive high school aviation pathway in the state.

A Curriculum That Lifts Off

The GTCHS Aviation Program is designed to provide students with a real track to careers in aerospace, aviation, and flight sciences. The four-course sequence builds knowledge progressively while emphasizing the critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills essential to the industry.

Courses Offered:

  • Introduction to Aerospace
Explore the history, theory, and fundamentals of aviation. Students build a strong foundation in flight science, aerodynamics, and aerospace careers.
  • Aviation 1
Delve into aircraft systems, weather, navigation, and airspace. Students begin preparing for the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test.
  • Aviation 2
Focus on aviation safety, flight physiology, and advanced navigation techniques. Simulators and flight planning tools bring classroom learning to life.
  • Aerospace Capstone
This culminating experience allows students to apply their skills through research, industry projects, or mentorship. Capstone students are recognized at graduation as Aviation Completers.

Students completing this program leave GTCHS equipped to pursue FAA pilot certification and postsecondary studies in aviation, aerospace engineering, or air traffic control.

Aviation in Action: Aerospace Club

Beyond the classroom, GTCHS students take their passion for flight even further through our Aerospace Club, which is an after-school program open to all students, regardless of course enrollment. Students team up to compete in state and national competitions, putting their knowledge and skills to the test for awards and recognition.

Aerospace Club invites students to turn curiosity into action from designing and building to planning and competing alongside peers who share a passion for flight and innovation.
