At GTCHS, we don’t follow the traditional high school script.
From our location on a college campus to our early college model, we’ve reimagined what a public school can offer. We are a charter school, but not your typical one. We are a high school, but not a conventional one. At our core, we are a community built around purpose, curiosity, and drive.
What began as an ambitious idea in 1999 — to create a public charter high school that accelerates opportunities — has become one of South Carolina’s most respected academic environments. We’ve earned national recognition, launched innovative programs, and, most importantly, helped thousands of students turn potential into progress.
GTCHS students aren’t waiting for “someday.” They’re starting now because the Warrior Way demands it.
An Early College Model That Works
We operate with the flexibility and innovation of a charter school, the academic depth of a middle college, and the values of a close-knit community.
- We proudly serve students from across South Carolina through a non-merit-based admissions process. However, due to the accelerated nature of our program and the demands of dual enrollment, GTCHS may not be the best academic fit for every learner. Families should carefully consider whether our rigorous, college-preparatory environment is the right fit for their child. Students must be motivated, ready to rise to academic challenges, and capable of meeting our mastery-based expectations.
- We are intentionally diverse, with students representing more than 15 countries and a wide range of learning needs, interests, and aspirations.
- We are a leader in dual enrollment, with students taking real college classes often as early as 10th grade, and sometimes even 9th grade.
- We are a service-driven culture, where 200+ hours of volunteer work are part of every student’s high school journey.
At GTCHS, we believe education should be both rigorous and personal. Academic expectations are high: students must demonstrate mastery (a minimum of 75) to receive credit in all courses. But no student walks the path alone. With advisory looping, daily office hours, and faculty and counselors who are deeply invested, students are supported every step of the way.
Mastery Learning
A passing grade requires a minimum score of 75%. Students are expected to truly understand the material, not just memorize it.
Looping Advisory
Each student is paired with the same advisor for consistent mentorship and academic check-ins throughout their four years with us.
Academic Supports
Dedicated office hours, intervention blocks, WIN (“What I Need”) time, and 1:1 feedback help students stay on track.
College & Career Focus
GTCHS has a full-time Career Development Facilitator and offers job shadowing, financial literacy workshops, resume development, and college visits.
